Parminder was born to Jagtar Singh and Jasmail Kaur in 1961 and owes much of her success to their unconditional love and support. Her grandfather, Jawahar Singh spent 2.5 years in jail following his role in the Jaito and Guru ka Bagh Protests opposing the British Regime. Her father’s brother Shaheed Karnail Singh was martyred in the Goa Liberation Movement in 1955. Her father’s other brother Principle Takhat Singh is known for having introducing ghazals to the Punjabi language.
Parminder Swaich was born in Village Isru in Punjab, India. Parminder attended high school at the Shaheed Karnail Singh Memorial Govt. School. She went on to receive an undergraduate degree from A.S College for Women in Khanna and a master’s degree from Punjabi University Patiala. During her time in college, Parminder was heavily involved with several student organizations. Since then she has maintained a steady commitment to her community.
Parminder’s interest in writing began fairly early on in her life; she wrote her first stage play, “Daj di Lahnat”, in college. Parminder moved to Canada in 1989 and built a life with her husband and three children. While she raised her children, Parminder took a break from writing. However, her passion drew her back in 2004 and she published her first book in 2007. Through her lifetime, Parminder has worked actively and determinedly with several different organizations. Most notably, The Tarksheel Cultural Society of Canada. Today, she is heavily involved with the East Indian Defence Committee and the Progressive Arts Club, where she is both a director and an actress. Her passion for the arts has inspired, and continues to inspire, many people around her.
